RIB Duty: Helm & Crew
Two RIBs, each operated by one Helm and one Crew, are required to provide safety boat cover for club sponsored dinghy races and events. They operate in support of the Officer of the Day (OOD).
RIB Helm
RIB Helms must be PB2 qualified and have been approved for duty by TSC. Ideally, you should have done a safety boat course, either with RYA or TSC, but it is not required if you have sufficient experience.

RIB Crew
Any member can be a RIB Crew. The only requirement is that you must be physically able to perform the duty and you must read the TSC Safety Boat Handbook, which you can download at the bottom of this page.
What's involved?
You should arrive at the club at least an hour before the published race start time, as you will need to check the boat and get it onto the water. The RIBs are the first boats out and the last boats in.
It is essential to dress properly. Crew need to be dressed to get in the water. And remember it is always much colder on the water than on land. A Thermos of hot drink is always a good idea in inclement weather! In the summer, don't forget a hat and sunscream!
Safety Boat Training
We run Safety Boat Training sessions in April for both Helms and Crews and we would strongly encourage all of our crew to attend. These will help you to help others, as well as giving you a good insight in how to be rescued if you get into trouble when you're out sailing. They are also good fun!
