Regatta
The Thornbury Sailing Club Regatta is held every year for fleets of dinghies and cruisers.
Run over the weekend which gives the club the opportunity to organise Saturday night entertainment, including an evening meal for the competitors, who can also camp at the club.
Dinghies
The dinghies have two races per day, each with 2 fleet starts: fast dinghies, less than PY 1036, and slow dinghies with a PY of 1037 and greater. The courses set for the dinghies are around the local marks. We also include results within the regatta for dinghy classes that would like an 'open meeting' type event with separate results and possibly starts; this year we are expecting class events for YW Dayboats & Miracles.
Cruisers
A cruiser fleet start is added to the starting sequence and the cruisers use long distance courses mainly travelling 'up river' using navigation marks.
Visitors
Visiting sailors and their families are very welcome at the TSC Regatta, both for the racing and the social. There is a small fee and you must have adequate 3rd party insurance that covers you while racing.
Dates and timings
We aim for a weekend when the tides are around midday, to allow time for visitors to travel to the club and get their boats rigged, and to get home at a sensible time after the racing finishes on Sunday. We also choose a weekend when the tides are not too extreme, so that visitors don't have problems launching and retrieving on very low tides. High tides with fast flows make it difficult for visitors, who don't know the peculiarities of sailing at Thornbury, to compete against the local sailors.
