We are all set for this year's Sail Training in Bristol Harbour. We have 30 slots available for the RYA Level 1 & 2 Course , which will follow the format from the last couple of years.

If you, a family member, or friend are interested, don't leave it too late, the course is always very popular and you don't want to risk missing out!

The course

RYA Level 1 & 2 is the industry standard course for new sailors, giving you the core skills you need to get on the water:

  • Level 1 you will be able to sail in light winds under supervision: how to sail in all directions, including an awareness of launching and recovering.
  • Level 2 you will be able to sail and make decisions in good conditions: rigging, launching, sailing in all directions, capsize recovery and essential safety knowledge.

The course is only £130, great value against £500 from a sailing centre.

Dates

TSC Sail Training will run over 5 sessions:

  • 23 March (Sat), 11:00 to 14:00 Shore based Session at TSC to prepare for the practical sessions.
  • 6 & 7 April (Sat/Sun), 09:00 to 17:00 Practical Sessions 1&2 at All Aboard Watersports in Bristol Docks to cover the RYA Level 1 Syllabus.
  • 20 & 21 April (Sat/Sun), 09:00 to 17:00 Practical Sessions 3&4 at All Aboard Watersports in Bristol Docks to cover the RYA Level 2 Syllabus.

If you are a TSC member and ready to sign up, please click here to book (you'll need to log in). Non-members, please click here to read about our Get into Sailing programme. Or if you have any questions, please contact Tom Barnes on sail_training_officer@thornburysc.org.uk.

And, as ever, we will need lots of volunteers to help with the course, whether on the water, with logistics or making tea. If you'd like to be involved, please let me know and put the dates in your diary.

I hope to see lots of you down in the harbour, it's great fun to get involved, even if that's giving your support from the Cottage Inn while you take in the spectacle!

Best wishes

Tom Barnes
Sail Training Officer
